Snacks are Important - Here's Why

Snacks get a bad reputation in the health and wellness world. Often snacks are viewed as unnecessary calories. But snacks are important. Let’s talk about why!

Snacks Are Important in Preventing Overeating

Did you know one of the greatest predictors of overeating is under eating? If you’re skipping meals and snacks when you need them, your body will ask you to make up for those skipped meals later (A.K.A. you’ll overeat to compensate later).

This is why snacking is so important. By snacking we are making sure we aren’t limiting vital energy from our body so we don’t get uncontrollably hungry later (like when the 8pm munchies come around).

Snacks Offer More Chances to Eat More Fruits & Vegetables

Another reason why snacks are important? They are a great chance to include more fruits and vegetables into your diet. With many people reaching for apple slices, oranges, and carrot sticks at snack time, they can be an easy way to boost your nutrition.

And if eating a plain fruit or vegetable as a snack doesn’t excite you, remember, your snacks don’t have to be boring to be beneficial!

Snacks Are Important for Energy

Additionally, snacks are important for energy. A healthy snack will help fuel you so you have the energy to work and manage your emotions.

They will prevent energy crashes (like the 2pm slump that seems to happen everyday). So make sure to snack to keep your energy up!

Do Not Underestimate the Power of a Snack

There are many reasons why snacks are important. From giving much needed energy, preventing overeating, and eating nourishing fruits and vegetables, snacks should not be underestimated. So there’s just one question: what are you snacking on?
